DIGITAL MUSIC CREATION
What is it?

DMC is course/class designed by Domininc
To be more relevant to the music and musical experiences that students have nowadays, furthermore it aims to reflect and embrace modern media to teach music.
Whilst many students will study a single instrument and will love this approach many will be more interested in composition, creation or simply may not want or be able to play an instrument.
The aim is to broaden the appeal and increase musical literacy outside of the more traditional methods. Whilst we embrace the modern we will also include more traditional aspects to build a strong musical foundation such as; theory, performance, and critical listening skills.

What does progression look like?
Initial work will be on using the tools and becoming familiar with technical language such that preset tasks of creation are possible. This could involve basic arrangements from written examples or by working in groups to create a piece together. As students become more comfortable with creating and working with multiple instruments and interfaces we will focus more on musical elements and self-evaluation. Music theory will be worked in and more choices will be available to more advanced students who will be able to work with and understand more styles and use a larger sound palette. We will also develop digital specific knowledge and how to manipulate and create both prerecorded and live sound. Beyond this students will develop a preference in style and start to develop their own interest and specialty in composition, post, or live work and be able to identify areas for development.

What equipment is required?
The first steps in the program will be garageband as many students will have access to some apple device and allows for tasks and work to be continued at home given it available on Mac and IOS. additionally this provides a good progression to logic pro in the future.
Basic midi keyboards and simple microphone and jack inputs will be the first hardware that we will be adding allowing digital and acoustic interactions with the DAW.

Future classes could include:
Middleware for integration into video games Other midi interfaces
other more advanced or specialized DAWs
Synths and other electronic instruments
Live sound equipment such as PA or mixing decks DJ software and/or hardware
